The automobile is one of the most remarkable inventions in the life of human being. The history of the automobile provides an evidence of gradual development of vehicles across the world. The history of automobile is strongly productive and takes us back to 15th century when Leonardo da Vinci prepared the basic details of car operated by the motor.
While imagining the first ever automobile, Henry Ford with his model “T” comes into the mind. He built a vehicle with three wheels, used steam to run and moved with the speed of 2 ½ miles per hour. In the course of history, this automobile was used to carry military war machine. Afterwards Cugnot planned another vehicle with three wheels but it was used for transportation of people.
This design of vehicle came to an end when Cugnot had the first ever accident by striking the vehicle against a stonewall. After Cugnot many people designed vehicles that used steam to run on the roads. Onesiphore Pecqueur, introducing the concept of gear in the car, amended Cugnot’s designed vehicle over time. Many historians have noted that in 1789, an official document with permission of making vehicles was granted to Oliver Evans.
Later on, the automobile was inaugurated in Great Britain by Richard Trevithick in 1801. From years 1820 to 1840, a large coach was used for transportation in Britain. But afterwards, railway track was formulated. Till 1850 motor trucks driven by steam came to Paris and Bordeaux by Charles Deitz.
Harrison Dyer, Joseph Dixon, Rufus Porter, and William T. James invented passenger vehicle for United States from 1860 to 1880.
Amedee Bollée Sr designed cars running with steam from years 1873 to 1883. In 1878, the "La Mancelle" with engine attached on the front side, driven by gears, backside wheels, steering wheel and driver seat exactly behind the engine. The boiler was adjusted behind the seat of the passenger. In 1871, Dr. J. W. Carhart, professor of physics at Wisconsin State University, and the J. I. Case Company designed a working steam car that won a 200-mile race.
The first output yield of automobiles was produced by Karl Benz of Germany in 1888 with the certification of Benz. Then, in 1897 Rudolf Egg, Edward Butler, and Léon Bollée introduced cycle with three wheels called tricycle. The first company to manufacture automobiles was Panhard et Levassor in France with engine having four cylinders. It wass accompanied by Peugeot formed in 1889.
Automobile History reshaped when America’s first automobile manufacturing company was established in Formed in 1889 by Charles and Frank Duryea. On the other hand, Olds Motor Vehicle Company of Ransom E. Olds controled the field of production of automobiles in 1902. Later on Cadillac, Winton and Ford were manufacture on a large scale.
The changing and variable technology produced thousands of vehicles within a few years. In the 1910s automobiles that run with Steam, electricity, and gasoline were introduced. The present age cars, as compared to the ones in the past, are using fuel power to generate greater performance. The automobiles have for long have had a strong history that may be narrated to several other industrial developments in the world.
